Overall Satisfaction with Automox
We use Automox on our complete inventory of servers and critical machines to ensure that they are all compliant for any updates and patches. Previously we relied mainly on Windows Update and scanning security alerts, but Automox finds things in Windows that aren't noticed by Windows update. In addition, it alerts us to updates (along with their importance) of almost every other software we use on those machines.
Pros
- Great speed and accuracy in locating things that need updates or patches.
- Automox seems very lightweight, and we've not seen any problems or degradation with regard to CPU usage.
- The dashboard is intelligently designed, and lets us see at a glance where there might be issues.
Cons
- The installer works great, but the wording could be improved to avoid misunderstanding. For example, the installer states the system requirements, and then says that it may not work properly on this machine. I took that to mean that the installer was saying the machine did not meet the requirements, but apparently that is intended as a general warning (which in our case could be ignored on all machines we installed). All installed just fine.
- We now save approximately 90 minutes per week of human workload, which can be applied to more appropriate tasks. This is a measurable gain in overall efficiency.
- We have been able to provide a new level of reassurance to our stakeholders that updates and patches are now monitored daily instead of weekly, and that they are automated and repeatable processes (as opposed to human processes)
As mentioned, using Automox has provided a time savings of 90 minutes per week (average) which directly impacts our bottom line, as well as employee satisfaction. It has also provided peace of mind by allowing us to know that scanning and patching for updates is now just 'handled' and we don't have to keep checking things manually.
While reviewing options, Automox seemed to be the better fit for our needs. Other options seemed to be near the same price point, but then had minimum annual order amounts that were beyond our current needs. Automox also met our requirements for 'must have' features and went beyond with some interesting 'nice to have' features. It was also a pleasant surprise when we opted for the annual commitment to receive a lower price per device, and then found that the total amount would still be billed monthly instead of all up-front. This was a great us, as we are SMB and cash-flow is important.
