Overall Satisfaction with Avalara

Avalara is used for sales tax management across our organization. Avalara ensures we are collecting the right amount of tax where our products/services are taxable and helps ensure we meet our compliance obligations.
  • I have found Avalara to be extremely easy to implement and maintain.
  • Avalara offers a tool called CertCapture to ensure tax exemption certificates are maintained and applied correctly.
  • Avalara's admin console is extremely intuitive and it's easy to contact support.
  • Follow-through from Avalara support could be better to ensure issues are completely resolved.
  • I have not used their foreign VAT module yet, but I understand it's still in its early phase.
  • I would like to see more granular Avatax codes to ensure our products/services matchup more accurately with the taxability codes with Avalara.
  • Avalara has significantly improved our accuracy in applying and collecting sales tax from our customers and reducing our sales tax collection risk.

Overall, the implementation was smooth. Avalara did a good portion of the implementation and made sure the rest of the configuration was done correctly by me. I did a fair amount of testing in our sandbox to ensure there were no bugs.

Avalara has a bundle that can be downloaded within NetSuite and the configuration is pretty quick and easy.
Overall, it's very easy to use and very intuitive. They have a lot of good demos and videos you can watch as well as support that you can query if you run into an issue. However, I have found it to be very easy to implement and maintain.
We use both the exemption certificate management tool, CertCapture and have most of our returns filed through Avalara. These are both integral services that reduce our effort and cost for the overall sales tax management process.
I also researched and compared Vertex but ultimately decided Avalara was a better fit for our company.
I think Avalara is fantastic for a big dollar, low volume company like ours. The pricing is very reasonable for a company with our sales tax profile.

With the passage of Wayfair by the Supreme Court during 2018, it's important to stay up-to-date with the constantly changing economic nexus standards that are being implemented by state legislators. Avalara has been integral to our ability to quickly recognize when we have triggered an economic nexus threshold. Avalara' system provides automatic notifications through the dashboard when our year-to-date revenue in a given state exceeds the established economic nexus threshhold in order to register in a timely manner.
