Overall Satisfaction with BambooHR®

BambooHR® has been a great addition to our employee management processes. We are able to quickly and easily manage the entire employee lifecycle within one system. The ease of use and customizations are great for small businesses that are looking to scale.

Pros

  • BambooHR® allows you to preview as a user in a specific access level. This is VERY helpful for providing instructions to employees or double checking that information is secure.
  • BambooHR® customer support is unmatched. Any time I have a question, I can quickly get an answer as well as additional resources.
  • Employees are able to easily find their information without coming to HR for questions. This cuts down on the questions coming into HR departments, big and small.

Cons

  • The benefits management portal has many areas for potential improvement. Reconciliations are difficult and there is confusing data during open enrollment transitions.
  • I wish there was more functionality within signature requests. It would be helpful for employees to submit forms unprompted (ex. professional development request).
  • More transparency into pay and benefit information.
  • I don't have great context of what was going on before BambooHR®. I am new to the company and the company itself has only been using BambooHR® for less than 2 years.
BambooHR® usability is fantastic! There are only two reasons that keep it from a 10:

1) When employees submit personal information updates that require approval before becoming active, the employee isn't notified that their request was received and awaiting approval. I have seen employees re-enter the same direct deposit information (for example) 3 or 4 times thinking the system wasn't saving their information.

2) The benefits portal for new hire and open enrollment isn't in a logical place. I had several team members reaching out asking where it was, when it should be very obvious. This left some to be desired.
10/10. The absolute best. I never dread contacting support. I know the team will be quick and helpful. It is so easy, that sometimes I skip straight to contacting support instead of trying to find help articles. They are faster than me trying to figure it out on my own!
BambooHR® reports are helpful, but not perfect. There are some standardized reports that would be helpful to customize. For example, the Plan Year Election Summary report has SO much information (which can be a good thing), but I only need 20% of that info for most of the items I'm working on following enrollment. I wish I could remove departments, contact information, etc.
At my previous employer, I evaluated over 20 HRIS platforms before choosing and implementing BambooHR® (in 2019). I love it! The continuous improvements are promising and I actually feel like product feedback is reviewed and, at times, implemented.

With BambooHR®, it truly comes down to what you are looking for. If I was solely doing performance management and career ladders, BambooHR® probably wouldn't be a fit. However, it does an overall great job at most things, and is a good quality product.

BambooHR® is great for small businesses. I would recommend to anyone looking to get out of spreadsheets and have a more streamlined process in place. However, it becomes more challenging to use the larger the company. It would just depend on the size of the company and their current processes.
