Overall Satisfaction with BlackLine

Blackline is being used by the accounting department only. Blackline helps to streamline the period end close process and provides both functionality and efficiency. The level of automation we have been able to achieve is only the beginning of what I think we can accomplish with Blackline. The system replaced a somewhat manual close process and we use three less systems as a result.

Pros

  • Automation of Bank Reconciliations
  • Automatically puts together amortization schedules
  • Provides efficiencies, while increasing controls and visibility without adding additional time to close process

Cons

  • Does not have integrations built with all ERPs
  • Our sales rep misrepresented the sytem
  • Need to use an implementation specialist (only a con because this adds to the cost, but highly recommend using a partner)
  • It has added a lot more controls that we didn't previously have
  • We have more visibility than before
  • We have reduced time spent on tasks
  • Streamlined our period end close process
At the time of evaluation, FloQast just offered a web system that effectively did what we were already doing. It provided the ability to be SOX compliant which we didn't really need. Blackline offers a level of automation and integration unparalleled in the industry. We ultimately selected Blackline because of its capabilities.
We were able to work with Blackline's developers directly to create an integration with our ERP. It didn't exist prior to us joining blackline. Their developers came to our rescue when they learned how much we were potentially going to have to pay for what we ultimately wanted to achieve. They were patient and worked with us and they didn't have to make the time. This is what you want in a true partner.

The reconciliation, matching and journal entry modules are all a must. If you need a period end close system that has it all, Blackline should be your choice. It has a lot of functionality and reduces the need for spreadsheets. If you want spreadsheets, Blackline gives you the ability to export the information. Bottom line, we are living in a world where automation is key. Blackline should be your choice handsdown. It's capabilities are endless and its developers are great to work with.
