Overall Satisfaction with Canto
Canto is used as a digital asset management system for a college. It is used to store assets created by the marketing department, however, the system is available to the entire community to search and download assets. It addresses the problem of organizing photography assets.
Pros
- Organizational structure tree.
- Search features.
- Filter features.
- Portal feature.
Cons
- No quick, back-end way of creating organization.
- Portal setup/sync can be slow.
- Sometimes links get overloaded when too many people try to download them at same time (links in email blasts).
- Download cropping/resizing isn't the most user friendly.
- Difficult to find things (not necessarily Canto's fault) - you must be well organized and have the organization tree well thought through to make this work.
- Visually appealing and front-end user friendly.
- Must pay attention to the little things (like expiring links to photos or albums) - can get tedious and redundant where you need to fix links if you don't pay attention to these things in the beginning.
- Lots of flexibility with design of site - colors, logos, etc --- very nice!
We decided to use Canto because of many features including the design, customizability, customer service, large thumbnails, organizational structure, tagging feature, and portal for outside consumers. The previous product that we were using was outdated and thumbnails were very small - searching for items was painful! Canto is beautiful and a pleasure to use when it's setup correctly and well thought out.
