Overall Satisfaction with Canto

Our organization uses Canto to organize nearly 50,000 images and other files for use in Communications throughout our grantmaking, recreational, and educational divisions. It allows us to manage our digital assets in a way that our communications department can share them with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders while maintaining editorial control.

Canto is extremely intuitive to learn to use and has been invaluable in streamlining our website operations. We're able to allow colleagues to choose from a curated selection of images and ensure that we're abiding by proper copyright and licensing laws. The end result is a higher-quality selection of imagery across all print and digital avenues that doesn't get too repetitive and stays up-to-date. Canto offers a range of useful functions that we haven't even implemented yet, like automatic watermarking.

The Foundation runs a philanthropy division, but also a public park with museums, gardens, and a golf course. I wish there were a way to socialize the image tagging process by allowing consumer-level accounts to tag images on their own, since the communications department can't be a subject matter expert in all of these realms, but we've found easy workarounds through internal training and the functionality that Canto has built-in.
  • Easy cloud-based image uploads allow for fast access from anywhere. We're no longer dependent on a VPN connection to our shared drives.
  • Searchability is fantastic. This requires close attention to tagging and categorization of assets, but when done properly, makes it much easier for users at all access levels to find what they need.
  • Canto's responsive design is good, but could be better.
  • A tag suggestion process for consumer-level users would be ideal.
  • Canto allowed us to implement a much easier, more streamlined process for allowing our colleagues to select images for their projects.
  • Canto has allowed users (especially while working from home during a pandemic) much faster, easier access to our image library.
  • Canto has allowed our communications department to create easily shared photo albums with clients and colleagues and allows us to control access levels and the ability to download and share.
