Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
It is used for computer and user auth before allowing access to the network. It helps prevent unauthorized devices and users access to the network. At the moment, it is only used for this purpose. We intend to start using it for profiling as well. This will allow us to dynamically identify devices and place them in the proper network.
Pros
- Profiling
- Policy Assignment
- Endpoint Traffic Restrictions
Cons
- Upgrading the platform is very time consuming and difficult
- Ability to build modular dACLs
- Built in health check of defined network devices
- Created a policy to allow help desk to add endpoints to an identity group that allows a PC basic services so it can rejoin the domain after losing its trust relationship with AD. This helped free up time from the engineers who were previously having to make the ISE change to allow access for the PC.
- The only negative impact that comes to mind is the battle of resources that sometimes happens because of the steep VM requirements.
