Mostly great but some tweaks needed
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Firewall
Both protecting the company network as well as selling Cisco Secure Firewall to dedicated managed service clients whose solutions we host in our data centres.
Pros
- L2L VPN
- Layer 4 filtering
- ACLs
- RA VPN
Cons
- Layer 7 filtering
- Use of FQDNs in ACLS (for ASA)
- Bug/vuln patching
- Some patching for zero day exploits have resulted in bugs causing downtime, meaning decision between vuln patching or risk of downtime needs to be discussed.
- Peace of mind that the device will receive continued upgrades and with a quick turnaround.
- Ability to use TAC for issues.
- Ease of hiring candidates with experience in product line.
With virtualized ASA devices, have noticed that the lower level licences such as ASAv5 recommended memory of 2Gb is not sufficient for running VPNs and results in the device running out of memory.
This is pretty core to our business as we offer these features to our clients.
