Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

We used to use paper timesheets. I felt they created additional work for both employees and payroll administration, they could get lost, the employees might have forgotten to fill them in, etc. We recently moved the running of the business over to Service M8 to have a centralised and affordable way of dealing with lots of aspects relating to the day-to-day running of our business. It was a big step, it took time to learn how to implement the features it has, it took a bit of convincing the staff that this would be easier to use and our existing clients also noticed the changes. Happily, it was one of the best business decisions we made and it really helps. The area that I felt still needed improvement was the timesheets for our staff. It turns out that Deputy has an integration that clocks staff on, can track breaks, and also automatically clock out at the end of their workday. It's not always 100% and there is an element of either manual input for the breaks on tweaking if staff forget to log in on a morning sometimes, but on the whole, it really does reduce the payroll admin.

  • It would be useful if Deputy could integrate staff days off with Xero.

  • Payroll accuracy and actual time staff worked are major benefits to both staff and business owners.
At the time I tried it (a couple of years ago, think it might have been called T-Sheets?) it really was not something we could use for running a business where the field employees didn't work fixed shifts. It would have been more work than staying with the manual timesheets.

On the whole, it's fairly easy to use. I would like it if Deputy was a little easier to use when integrating with Xero and importing timesheets. I would also like it better if the holidays and staff sickness had a deeper integration with Xero. Lastly, it would be great if they could also have the option for field operatives.
Not bad, I do remember feeling a little bit alone when setting up. There were videos and webinars but none specifically for explaining how to use deputy for field service employees (as a workaround for setting up locations etc) or integration Xero payroll. I did struggle but managed with persistence and quite a few failed attempts!

Deputy works well as an integration for the Service M8 app we use to run our business day-to-day. I feel it could benefit by having a field operative option that could help run and integrate with apps like service M8 and Xero. I also would like it to be linked more closely with Xero payroll and staff time off as I think Xero's offering probably isn't as good as Deputy's but would create more work if I were to try and run the 2 separate apps and manually input the data into Xero.

2 - The 2 owners use Deputy to track employees time and export to Xero to administer our employee payroll.
Personally, I only have basic computer skills. It did take me a few failed attempts at some of the things that our business needed setting up but I got there in the end.
