Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Dropbox as our main file storage system for around 50 employees. We utilize file sharing and folder management via Dropbox. We needed a solution that would work with PC and MAC and allow remote users access to the same files as everyone else in office.

Cons

Synching files PC and MAC with the web vs desktop software.
Folder Ownership and permission settings, when people create a folder they become the owner and its then hard to operate those folders when that person leaves the company.

Return on Investment

Trying to create a standard folder structure gets complicated when each person can create folders and then be the owner of that folder. Need to have a better user structure. We spend alot of time tracking down who created a folder or granting access to other users.

Alternatives Considered

Google Drive and Microsoft 365

In my opinion, Microsoft 365 for file storage and permissions is great and superior to Dropbox. Google having free storage is great since we utilize Gmail for our email provider.

Likelihood to Recommend

Dropbox is great for file storage and ease of use. It allows us to house files with in office employees and offsite employees via the cloud.

The ownership of folders is the part that I dislike. If an individual creates a folder and that person leaves, it is sometimes hard to take over ownership permissions. Should be a way to xfer all ownership of a users folders to someone else or have multiple owners.
