Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
I use Dropbox to share research documents and data with my PhD supervisors. It helps us collaborate easily by allowing both of us to access and edit the latest versions of our work. I store large datasets and share drafts for academic papers. While it sometimes has syncing issues, Dropbox is essential for our collaboration.
Pros
- With Dropbox Paper, multiple users can edit documents simultaneously, allowing for seamless teamwork without the need for back-and-forth emails or file versions
- It provides a single space for organizing all project-related files, reducing clutter and improving accessibility. We can track file history and manage permissions easily
- We can leave comments and annotations directly on documents, ensuring that feedback is clear and easily linked to specific sections of the work
Cons
- There have been reports of bugs in Dropbox Business Team Folders that can lead to files being unshared or appearing deleted due to connection issues
- It has limited audit trails and accountability features, making it difficult to track changes and access
- Dropbox options disappear from the right-click menu in Windows Explorer, which complicates file management tasks
I prioritize fast syncing and need advanced file-sharing security.
