Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
At CVL Engineers we rely on Dropbox as our firm-wide “single source of truth” for every drawing set, proposal, inspection photo, and marketing asset that moves through the company. Before adopting it we wrestled with lost time hunting for the latest file on network drives, email attachments that blew up inbox quotas, and an Edmonton–Calgary–Toronto–Vancouver workforce that couldn’t reliably reach the same server. Dropbox removes those pain points by giving each discipline a structured, permission-controlled project folder and automatic version history, so a structural engineer in Calgary and a marketing coordinator in Edmonton can co-edit a 200 MB Revit model or an InDesign proposal without overwriting each other’s work. Because sync is cloud-first, field staff can upload site photos from a tablet the moment they leave a job, and our proposal team can drop those images straight into a bid package minutes later. Add-ons like Dropbox Paper (for task checklists) and Dropbox Sign (for executing sub-consultant NDAs) further collapse our workflow. In short, the platform tackles version-control chaos, large-file transfer headaches, and cross-office collaboration, while keeping client data encrypted and audit-ready—freeing us to focus on “building cool sh*t,” not chasing files.
Pros
- its quick, if my coworker saves a file I can almost see it instantly
- Never ran into transfer issues, it's quick
- Saves multiple versions of the same file which has saved my ass multiple times
Cons
- allow files to be edited by multiple people at the same time without creating conflicting copies
way better in every aspect
