Overall Satisfaction with GoodData

We use GoodData to power up analytics for our customers (businesses) and how they are dealing with their own customers. We can leverage a lot of useful capabilities of GoodData, the most liked feature currently is the capabilities of the bricks. We can set up any new account with the perfect settings every time following our guidelines and the ramp-up is quite fast. We are using the platform version with an iframe displayed in our platform.
It allows us to have a BI tool for our customers an easier way than implementing it ourselves, and it is a clean solution.

  • Bricks in general
  • Documentation (can still be improved)

  • Initial setups
  • Limitations on the MAQL
It is really powerful, with a lot of capabilities, but still, there's a little bit of missing documentation, not updated properly that can be misleading.
We were kinda fast and running for our basic needs, but when we needed some specific needs, like some implementation with the SSO as a seamless connection experience, it took us a while, and we encountered some issues for this part. The LDM brought us some issues and frustrations. Adding new fields on an existing LDM caused us some issues. It wasn't really a seamless experience because we couldn't put the type we wanted on the new field. There are multiple types possible that are properly set when we drag and drop an existing db model inside the LDM, but if we manually create one that we added to our model, we are limited on the type that we can set. Doing a new drag and drop creates some issues with the existing model, renaming existing fields. Some queries with the MAQL engine aren't really fun and easy to deal with. It looks like SQL but it is far from being SQL, it brings some frustrations. Some many-to-many relations were also a little bit tough to deal with, it didn't work the way we expected it to work. Some parts of the documentation weren't really clear.
As a dev setting this up for clients, I enjoyed the most the bricks and possibilities with these ones. The architecture available with master accounts on different environments allows us to properly set a testing/dev and prod environment for testing our new metrics, dashboards, and new LDMs without any struggle.
N\A, I wasn't the one comparing the possibilities between the different products.

Do you think GoodData delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with GoodData's feature set?

Yes

Did GoodData live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of GoodData go as expected?

No

Would you buy GoodData again?

Yes

I can only speak for ourselves, we think it is suited for developing a BI solution kinda fast for multiple customers. I do not think it would be the best solution if we had only a few dashboards/metrics to be done.
