Overall Satisfaction with GoodData

We use GoodData to embed analytics in our platform to deliver actionable insights for our customers.
Using GoodData allows us to devlier more meaningful insights for our customers, it has shifted the effort of developing metrics, insights, and reports away from the development team and onto the Data team allowing us to be more agile and iterate more quickly.

Pros

  • It is very flexible, and allows us to simplify complex SQL through the use of metrics
  • Security is built-in to the platform through the use of Workspaces
  • Analytics as code allows us to develop as a software team

Cons

  • More join types in the data modelling
  • Being able to coalesce values in the data model, without converting to a SQL model
  • As a data team we can now develop reports for customers a lot faster and more independence on external teams saving their effort.
  • Our customers have more in depth insights, that provide a more complete view of the platform
It is easy to get started with, the analytics as code is easy to understand and you can easily get a set of reports built and defined with only SQL knowledge. The metrics language (MAQL) has a bit of a learning curve, although it is straightforward to implement basic metrics
Connecting to our database and getting the data model definite was possible within a day, and building metrics, visualisations, and reports followed quickly after
We were able to build out a full analytics platform for our customers using GoodData with relative ease. Building and defining metrics, visualisations, and reports is straightfoward. We also use analytics as code and GoodData allows us to deploy from bitbucket, meaning we can deploy changes with confidence and rolling back deploys is trivial when necessary.

GoodData is well suited to teams that want to develop analytics as code, have in-built tenancy, and enable the data team to operate like a software engineering team with PRs, deploys from commit refs, etc
