Overall Satisfaction with Google Voice

Google Voice is used in my organization to provide teachers with a free and easy-to-manage phone number so that we do not have to give out our personal cell #. It is not required, but highly encouraged. Many instructors across the organization use Google Voice. The business problems it addresses include privacy, accountability, ease of use for calling and texting, as well as the ability to call and text from a web-based platform as well as a physical phone.
  • Cost (free)
  • Great integration with other Google products (ex. Gmail)
  • User friendly
  • The new layout is hard to use. I still prefer the Legacy Google Voice option.
  • Once your business claims your account, you cannot get it back.
  • Search feature could be improved
  • Has allowed me to maintain privacy
  • Do not disturb feature helps me maintain set hours/respect my family time since I work from home
  • Cost efficient, as it is free
I used Vonage for a few years before I switched to Google Voice. Google Voice is free, where as Vonage is not. Vonage was not portable at that time and Google Voice has a cell app. Vonage gave me basic VOIP calling and no texting. Google Voice gives me the ability to text.
Google Voice is wonderful for online teachers who do not wish to share their personal cell phone numbers. It would not be suited for businesses with high call volume.
