Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoToMeeting is used within my organization to set up remote phone calls and video interviews with business parters and our users. Each department is free to choose their own conference software tools, so it is being used by different parts of our organization. For my department specifically, we have used GoToMeeting to set up remote user interviews and do remote user testing so we can get early feedback on our product ideas.

Pros and Cons

GoToMeeting is quick and easy to set up and join.
GoToMeeting is usually reliable.

GoToMeeting constantly requires installing updates.
GoToMeeting has a very outdated interface.

Return on Investment

GoToMeeting has enabled us to do remote user testing, which ultimately limits the time spent building the wrong product.
GoToMeeting enables collaboration and communication with our partners, which builds trust and allows us to get feedback.

Usability

GoToMeeting is usually pretty simple and straightforward if you have used other conference meeting software. However, the user interface does a feel bit dated at times. Even just the initial login screen feels outdated, and it's also hard to tell sometimes whether or not your microphone is on, or your web camera, or your speakers.

Support Rating

I haven't had to ever personally contact GoToMeeting for support, however some of my co-workers have and the support was good. I'm not sure if it was necessarily exceptional or not, but the issues were resolved and we were able to continue using the product the way we needed to. So overall, I would say it's good.

Alternatives Considered

Zoom and Google Hangouts

To be honest, it's always hard to choose which video conferencing software to use. A lot of the time it comes down to my customer's or user's preference if they are already using an existing one. I don't want to force the people I am communicating with to use a different interface they're not comfortable with, so I usually select whichever one they are most comfortable with.

Sketch, Google Hangouts, Slack

Likelihood to Recommend

GoToMeeting is great for setting up remote interviews, conference calls, and any type of meeting you need to set up with people not currently at your office. Scenarios where it's less important would be when the people you're meeting want to use a different competitor conferencing service, such as Zoom Meetings or Google Hangouts.
