Overall Satisfaction with GoToMeeting
GoToMeeting is generally used only by my meetings and events department. We use it to have video calls with other companies that we cannot meet with physically as well as share our screens easily with those people. It also allows people to call in via phone if they don't have a computer or internet available, but still participate in the meeting. We also use it during internal meetings, allowing employees that are traveling to see what we are presenting in the room. The latest way we've used the product is video conferencing with our whole department while all teleworking from home due to the virus (COVID-19) situation.
Pros
- Connects remote workers to offices in a more meaningful way.
- Allows departments who need to work from home during quarantine to still communicate and check-in on each other.
- It offers many options for muting microphones, screens, and passing screen-share to another user, even if not the main user.
Cons
- I would prefer the program not to make a noise every time someone mutes or unmutes themselves.
- Forcing someone to type in their name when they join a meeting if they don't have a name assigned to their invite. Sometimes it just says "caller 1."
- Makes sharing information via screen much easier when able to show it in real-time and field questions and answers about it from participants.
- Saves time because of the above answer as well!
- Zoom, Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and Google Hangouts (Classic)
Google Hangouts is a bit less professional than GoToMeeting.
Zoom is currently being toted as a great, free way to have meetings while staying home and working during the coronavirus outbreak, and because of this I suspect the program is being overloaded with users. GoToMeeting is a little less known and therefore in my opinion more reliable.
Skype for Business is also a good product, but I'm not sure of the ease of functionality as compared to GoToMeeting. Skype doesn't have as many features.
