Overall Satisfaction with Heap

We use Heap for Product Management to track engagement and usage of different features. We also use it in Client Success to monitor onboarding progress and adoption.
  • Auto capture of every click as soon as you install it
  • Live view for debugging
  • Heap University for training
  • Ability to filter a whole dashboard at a time
  • When running a new analysis where factors are changing, better retain filters that were previously set
  • More in-depth product knowledge from the CSMs
  • Increased awareness of underutilized features
  • Better tracking for churn risk
  • Better metrics surrounding new feature launch
If you don't know how to write CSS selectors, it can be hard to use Heap. But they offer courses which help you learn how to write these so it mostly works out. They have a feature that's supposed to make it easy to target an element, but their suggestions are a bit too naive depending on how your DOM is set up.
Heap is usually performant but I have experienced a couple outages.
I don't really have experience with other analytics software. But I understand that the auto-capture of events is unique to Heap and many other tools require developers to do the instrumentation, which wouldn't work well for our team.

I think Heap is great for seeking out answers to specific questions. It's easy to use even as a non-technical employee, I love that I don't have to ask an engineer for help every time I want to measure something new. Heap's data visualizations and automatically generated insights may be less sophisticated than what their competitors offer.
