Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos Analytics

IBM Cognos Analytics is used as a reporting tool to make reports and schedule them. We have over 250 reports that are scheduled daily and weekly to over 20 executives. IBM Cognos Analytics was initially decided to be used as an automatic scheduler of excel format reports. Later on it was adopted to be used as our dashboarding platform.

Pros

  • Schedule reports
  • Calculations and transformation of raw data
  • Flexibility with excel format

Cons

  • Write back functionality
  • Visual Data Modelling
  • Native connectivity with latest cloud platforms
  • Time Savings & Productivity Gains
  • Consistent, governed data models reduce the risk of errors
  • Report bursting ensures store managers, regional leaders, and executives each receive tailored reports automatically
  • On-prem IBM Cognos Analytics environments require heavy IT effort to maintain servers
The most valuable capabilities of IBM Cognos Analytics are its robust scheduling, which allow complex reports to be automatically distributed to thousands of users with personalized filters. The platform also excels in governed data modeling ensuring compliance and consistency across departments. Also, IBM Cognos Analytics supports complex calculations, making it especially valuable in large companies
IBM Cognos Analytics has enabled organizations to automate reporting at scale in ways that weren’t possible before. For example, with report bursting and scheduling, a single report or dashboard can now be tailored and securely distributed to hundreds of managers and departments automatically something that used to require days of manual effort
Power BI is stronger for quick ad-hoc analysis and dashboards, but IBM Cognos Analytics is better when consistency, precision, and mass distribution matter. Tableau is best for interactive analysis, while IBM Cognos Analytics is better for standardized, repeatable enterprise reporting. Sigma shines for customizable dashboards and drill-down analysis while IBM Cognos Analytics holds an edge in data discovery and visualization.

IBM Cognos Analytics has great scheduling capabilities. A single report can be parameterized (e.g., “Store Manager ID”) and burst to thousands of recipients with their slice of data.IBM Cognos Analytics is a good fit for highly complex, multi-level calculations which can be handled by Report Studio. For example Monthly balance sheet that requires multi step calculation
