Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud

We are a software reseller and consulting company. A few of our clients use IBM Cognos Analytics as their platform of choice for Enterprise reporting and business intelligence. A few of them are cloud users.

Pros

  • Single source of truth enterprise-wide
  • Most secure BI platforms available for reporting, dashboards, and analytical analysis

Cons

  • Software POD availability across Asia Pacific
  • Seamless integration with other IBM Business Analytics software suite
Compared to others, IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud offers much simpler product options, actually just one as against many-part components for other providers like PowerBI. Unlike other options available in the market, IBM Cognos Analytics has extensive ability to handle large data sources, comes with matured data comparison capabilities and ability to narrate data, analysis journey storyboards, and has both on-premises and cloud options.
You can use packages, data modules, uploaded files, and data sets as sources of data for your IBM Cognos applications. The connectivity, while it isn't as mature as with its on-premises version, is ever-evolving and catching up.
Report bursting has always been good with IBM Cognos and Cloud is no exception, whether it's types of formats, scheduling, security, or distribution. It's especially useful when reports are being bursted to a significant number of users, like for annual reports, sales dashboards, or commissions statements. This, coupled with easy licensing options, keeps the costs in check.
IBM Cognos Analytics on Cloud is well suited for:
  • Medium and large enterprise, dealing with complexity of scale
  • When user identity, access management, and enterprise information security is a concern
  • Where clients want to do bit more than vanilla reporting like predictive analysis, extrapolation, and analysis
Less appropriate when:
  • Desktop reporting is the need of the hour
  • Client is after self-service reporting only
  • Prediction is the main objective
