Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Jabber

Cisco Jabber is being used across our entire organization, after a recent amalgamation of multiple systems. We use it on a daily basis to communicate with project teams in multiple offices across the country. Jabber has enabled faster communication, both peer-to-peer and peer-to-group, throughout the many teams at our company. One challenge Jabber has helped us address is the need for instant communication between offices across the country. The integration with Active Directory and Outlook really improve the experience, as asking quick follow up questions is greatly simplified.
  • Outlook and Active Directory Integration. I can search for a peer in any system, call their desk or IM them without needing to translate data from one system to another. Also, I know if they are in one system, they are in all systems.
  • Screen sharing. One on One walk throughs and collaboration is greatly simplified.
  • Phone Integration. I can easily call up a contact without finding their number or dialing a digit. One-click-calling!
  • Customization. While many portions are customizable, none are "full feature" customizable. If new emoticons are needed, a new deployment is needed to all clients. Adding new tabs is easy, but the documentation on the javascript hooks is lacking.
  • Screen sharing. The screen sharing is great one-on-one, but functionality such as taking over a screen share either does not exist or is not easy to find.
  • Image Copy & Pasting. When someone sends an image in a message, and then you try and copy-paste it into another chat, it appears as a file transfer instead of just sending the image in the chat.
  • Jabber allowed us to deliver projects faster, as we are all on one communication platform and can instantly communicate.
  • Jabber has improved our customer service efficiency, as our CSR teams can reach out to each other for instant answers to customer's concerns.
  • Lync
Previously, I have used Microsoft Lync for similar types of communication. Jabber definitely feels like it is put together better than Lync. Jabber seems more stable and easier to use (more intuitive). One feature I miss of Lync is the ability to quickly connect to users outside of your organization's chat servers without additional configuration by the administrators, which allowed for quicker communication with vendors.
Jabber is great for collaboration across large organizations, especially when the teams are in multiple offices or in multiple locations. This is true for both smaller teams in a large organization as well as larger mixed teams. Chat rooms enable easy group discussions and open forums, which is complimented by the ability to restrict access to certain rooms (invite only, password).
