Excellent for Hardware Inventory
Overall Satisfaction with Lansweeper
Lansweeper is currently being used by my organization as our main inventory tool. Let me say from the very start that I did not configure Lansweeper for us, so my obervations and reviews are based on the current configuration that we use and what I have done with it. We do not use the software deployment features, only the inventory, but for what we use it for it works very well. I run it from a virtual server, and I can check to see how many PCs have what software installed, I can see a current users PC name, or vice versa, and see a certain PC's current user. I can also set up collections based on software.
Pros
- Keeps track of PCs via Active Directory
- Tells who is currently logged into a certain PC
- Shows what software is installed on a certain PC
Cons
- Results are not instant, meaning they take time to scan
- Purging is not accurate. I have seen machines show up that have been off the domain for weeks
- The interface could be more intuitive
- For inventory management, it works well
- Software deployment would be a negative impact as we don't use it or have it set up
- Software inventory is so so, as sometimes it does not update in a timely manner
- Spiceworks, Ivanti Endpoint Manager (formerly LANDESK Management Suite), ManageEngine AssetExplorer and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
The main competitor that are not isted on your TrustRadius is PDQInventory and PDQDeploy, and those two come as a package and they blow Lansweeper out of the water for both software deployment and hardware inventory. That being said, comparing it to the others I see listed: Spiceworks is just as good for inventory, and it is free. Landesk(Ivanti) is better, but ten times more expensive. SCCM works well, but takes an unbelievable amount of configuration. ManageEngine, I would rate it equal with Lansweeper. All in all, Lansweeper works for what we use it for, and I would like to see what it does when fully unleashed.
