Overall Satisfaction with ManageEngine Desktop Central

We use ManageEngine Desktop Central to automate desktop management, take control of remote desktops, deploy patches, and deploy software. ManageEngine Desktop Central is being used across the entire organization, approximately 200 people in 7 locations.
  • The software deployments are fabulous. It takes a bit of homework to properly set up silent installs, but once you've got it figured out it deploys software like a champ.
  • Patch management is a breeze. The reporting is great. You can deploy to entire sets of computers or just one or two for testing.
  • The remote control agent is superb. It supports the use of multiple screens and also allows file transfers in the background.
  • Sometimes the remote control agent will simply lose mouse/keyboard control. You can still view the session, but you are no longer in control. A disconnect/reconnect is the only solution.
  • The remote control agent can have issues with super-high resolution video cards. It causes the mouse to be "off" by a few inches on the screen. You have to ask the end-user to adjust the monitor to a lower resolution, then reconnect.
  • Huge patches can be an issue because the end-user needs to first wait for the patch to DL, then install. They often grow frustrated and reboot while the huge patch is still downloading. It would be nice if it pre-pushed larger patches in the background, then installed it. We've found a manual way to pre-copy the patch files into the end-user's target directory, but this workaround is not ideal.
  • The impact has been positive. Being able to manage entire sets of assets, rather than addressing them one at a time, has been huge. The ability to deploy an application without disturbing an end-user is great as well.
  • No negative impact on ROI.
I've used RDP for remote control. I've used WSUS to deploy patches. I've used various methods to achieve nearly silent install of software. The great thing about ManageEngine Desktop Central is that it is all under one umbrella with one interface.
It is well suited for an environment that requires the management of 40+ computers. The ability to push software, deploy patches, and remote control computers is great.
