Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

In my organization, Microsoft Power BI is used to built reports all around the business, covering many areas. There are over 30+ reports published, and it is widely used by the leaders to make data driven decisions. From supply chain to finance, all these areas have very helpful reports and dashboards built on Microsoft Power BI

Pros

  • Easy to connect to datasources
  • Easy to manipulate data
  • Many visualization options availabe

Cons

  • My main challenge with Microsoft Power BI is that data manipulation is very limited within datasets in Direct Query Mode, i like to centralize data modeling and visualization on Microsoft Power BI but sometimes I have to clean my data somewhere else if it’s in this mode.
  • Using Microsoft Power BI, i saved a lot of time building finance reports, for example. Before they were all done manually, compiling information from many datasets into excel, and with Microsoft Power BI i can connect straight to the data source and do everything there. This saved me many hours during month end closing process.
Microsoft Power BI works really well for most of my needs, it is relatively easy to use and it’s not hard to figure out if something more complex needs to be done. It’s also easy to share reports around the organization, control user access, etc, which is really important

Do you think Microsoft Power BI delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Power BI's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Power BI live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Power BI go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Microsoft Power BI again?

Yes

I highly recommend Microsoft Power BI, even though it has some limitations with data modeling, it still has many visualization options and things that can be done with datasets. I wouldn’t recommend Microsoft Power BI if your dataset is too messy, maybe you should treat your data before using it, specially if you want to use this dataset in direct query in Microsoft Power BI.
