Projects in line with Prince2
Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Project
We are a telecoms company and currently use Microsoft Projects for our phone system installation projects. This includes on premise and hosted solutions depending on the customers requirements and broadband / connectivity options. This compliments our existing use of the Microsoft Office / 365 products. This allows for project management in line with our Prince2 project management framework.
Pros
- Project Planning
- Project Tracking
- Cost analysis vs budget
- Time analysis vs budget
Cons
- Not industry specific - No templates for Telecoms
- Difficult to learn initially
- No integration / API's for 3rd party collaboration tools
- Our demand and resource planning budgets have improved. Accurate reporting on engineering and project management resources have allowed us to plan much more effectively. Allows us to do more with the same amount of resources.
- Helped improve customer perception of our delivery function.
- Increased the number of customer referrals.
- Allowed for better cost control and procurement.
Microsoft Projects is more widely used and integrates with our Microsoft Office 365 suite of products. Speaking with peers within the industry it appears Microsoft Projects is a better fit for telecoms companies. Resource and task management seem easier and more effective with Microsoft Projects and we were offered a good deal from a pricing perspective
