Overall Satisfaction with Mimecast Cloud Archive
We needed a true archive system with better features than what Microsoft (not a true archive) gives.
The sync and recover has saved us a huge amount of time when we've needed to recover one or thousands of emails for a mailbox. And it is simple and quick from the admin perspective.
The sync and recover has saved us a huge amount of time when we've needed to recover one or thousands of emails for a mailbox. And it is simple and quick from the admin perspective.
Pros
- Sync and Recover is a great tool for when you need to recover emails quickly or in bulk.
- The archive is nested in the mail protection admin portal, so it is easy to navigate between the recent mail in the protection portal (limited window of time) and the archive when searching for emails during investigations or troubleshooting.
- The additional protection feature allows scanning of emails that land in the archive. This helps with internal to internal emails that might have been malicious, for instance from a compromised account.
- The Mimecast for Outlook add-in is nice, although you can access it from the web as well, for seeing your own archives. If users are missing an email, they can look there on their own without submitting an IT support ticket.
- We do not allow end users to restore their own, but that is a feature that exists as well.
Cons
- Archiving systems rarely ever "wow" you. So that being said, there's not really anything that needs improvement that we can see. It checks off all that we need from an archive system.
- If I was to pick one thing that was tricky, I would say the search function could be better. It is limited in how or what you can search. For instance, if I wanted to search for emails FROM senderA OR senderB, I would have to run the search separately for each. If you include multiple email addresses, it is always AND.
- I would like more flexible criterion to filter my searches with.
- Before we enabled our Mimecast archive, we had multiple cases of users who had 10k+ emails "disappear" and could not find them. Trying to figure this out with Microsoft is near impossible. IT spent 5-10 hours on each situation trying to find, recover, and move the emails back into the user's mailbox.
- A couple term cases happened as well where the user deleted everything in their mailbox and recoverable area had be cleared automatically by the time we found out. One of them would have been 28k emails and would take days to recover.
- Since having Mimecast, it is a matter of going to the mailbox in the Sync and Recover and clicking a few things and restoring all the data. Super easy and restoring the data takes less time than manually doing it with a Microsoft Content Search export.
- We are talking a few minutes vs 5-10+ hours.
Mimecast has been the best archiving system so far that I've evaluated and/or used with the most "useful" features and best integration.
