Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We are using Miro for:
  1. Product, design, Innovation workshops
  2. Daily meeting visualization tool
  3. Place for Experimentation, Business Model Canvas, and other frameworks

Pros

  • Very easy to use UI
  • Idea voting and background music
  • Choice of frameworks, icons, and diagraming tools
  • Collaboration functionality

Cons

  • Larger choice of background music
  • Automatic diagram alignment/node organization
  • Wider choice of note & object colors
  • Faster access to icons in the menu
  • Quicker idea evaluation
  • Improved decision making
  • Improved team collaboration
It important to decide who are the full license users versus Guests.
We have only integrated with Slack, and it worked well. Slack notification are easy to spot and react to, and emails notification are useful as well.
Miro help us in these two areas:
  1. Visualizing thoughts in many meetings to ensure there is better alignment
  2. People come back to the boards to continue the work outside the meetings (including commenting on things)
  3. Individuals use it as their notebook and often refer to it to explain their thoughts to their peers.

  • MURAL (formerly Mural.ly)
Both tools are very similar. There are some minor cons and pros of both.
Here are some things I like in Miro over Mural are:
  1. Lower cost
  2. Ability to play background music during workshops
  3. The little shadow around the post-it notes makes them pop a bit more
  4. The 'infinite' canvas size is better that resizing the canvas in Mural multiple times (as it grows)
It's a great solution for workshops, ideation and voting, ad-hoc meetings, creating diagrams, visualization, light prototyping, and collaboration.
Miro helps with working out a details of unstructured/early thoughts and ideas, and any template can be easily pasted to it.
It's not a replacement for a professional prototyping tool, and it is not Excel or Powerpoint.
