Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We use Miro for multiple different stages along the academic research lifecycle. We use it to identify the problem scope of projects, conduct research endeavors with participants, analyze data, and compile resources in a visual manner. We have also used Miro as a common avenue to engage in different collaborative activities from ice-breakers to design ideation.

Pros

  • It is a great collaborative tool to use in a work setting that has been forced to be remote
  • Provides a means to visually depict information in creative and aesthetically pleasing ways that also preserve the richness of different data pieces
  • Encourages engagement between users

Cons

  • Miro has several accessibility issues, some of which they have acknowledged but largely need a deep investigation into
  • Despite offering the functionality, Miro is not well-suited for free-style drawing which is a barrier when its needed for different activities
  • Miro boards quickly become victim to performance issues when they start getting used for many different things requiring a lot of different individual boards
  • Miro has made brainstorming and project ideation a particularly quick activity now, something that would often take weeks to an activity that can now take one session
  • When used as a research tool, Miro saves on costs and time associated with access and storage of certain data
  • Miro does make it more challenging to have centralized locations for large amounts of work and requires numerous smaller boards if performance is a concern
Overall Miro is a great tool but should not remain in the state it is in. Future improvements to accessibility and performance would make this a tool that would truly withstand the test of time and remain in use for years to come. As of right now, I can easily see this tool being phased out once work returns to a largely in-person activity again.
Miro is not challenging to use at all and fits in really well to a variety of different contexts. One of the best features of Miro as a tool is that it is not restricted to particular usage contexts or environments. It can truly fit in anywhere. Great usage of Miro, however, does require a little bit (maybe a day) of playing around with and learning all of the hidden features.
Collaboration on our research projects would have been totally impossible. We were not allowed to meet in person in any capacity. Miro gave us a real-time, collaborative tool that didn't require us to take turns to use and update. Without Miro, I genuinely don't know how our projects would have proceeded.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

Miro is a great team tool that can be easily adapted to different collaborative activities. It is also particularly fun, creative, and useful in different research and data-driven endeavors. It is less appropriate for activities that call on a certain level of artistic involvement or are very heavy in terms of the number of items needed on the board. Great for small collaborative projects.
