Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We use Miro both at individual and team levels, as a thought aid and a collaboration tool, to understand, discuss, and communicate complex relations between concepts. We have used it to ideate new products and features, map workflows and processes, and generate mock-ups, graphs and charts for presentations. It is a great help in giving structure to otherwise disperse discussions: it helps make concepts visible and tangible, so that different stakeholders can contribute to building a shared understanding. The capabilities of Miro as a virtual whiteboard; It enables creating objects and relations in a very similar way as, if meeting in person, you would gather around a physical whiteboard and draw or move sticky notes around, to help visualise the concepts that you are speaking about and get everyone on the same page, instead of having each person hold their own perspective on their heads. Thus, it provides a very close experience to that of a physical whiteboard.

Pros

  • Mind maps
  • Affinity diagrams
  • Flow charts

Cons

  • Kanban boards
  • Tables
  • Exporting images
  • Reduced the length of internal discussions
  • Enabled asynchronous collaboration
  • Provided a record of past decisions
Yes. This is the main use case we have for Miro. Our team is globally distributed and we have a large number of fully remote colleagues. Miro helps us collaborate as if we were all sharing the same space

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

Good tool for collaborative sense-making and ideation. It helps map and communicate concepts and relations. The infinite canvas, the ability to drop images, draw links, etc. help create charts and graphs faster than with any other tool I have tried. Not so good as a tool for planning and productivity. In my opinion, there are better alternatives, where you can specify defaults, automated rules, etc. For example, Miro offers templates that mimic planning tools like Gantt charts, Kanban boards, etc. However, this is a superficial implementation. While you can make it look as one of those planning tools, every element needs to be created manually: you cannot set up smart rules or automation, as you can with specialised planning software (e.g. Trello or Asana). Thus, for those use cases I still prefer to use those specialised tools.
