Overall Satisfaction with Miro
I used Miro to collaborate with others and also to map out some my own ideas. It does a good job facilitating workshops and discussions in a visual and collaborative way to keep everyone involved and aligned during the process. When using it myself, I used it to capture my unstructured ideas so that I can rework on those ideas to present/ share with a broader team.
Pros
- Collaboration (multiple people editing at the same time)
- Preset templates (that I use and learn from)
- Tools that are useful when collaborating (timer, vote, etc)
Cons
- Hard to think on the spot, but there were definitely moments where I wish for improvements.
- One thing I could think about right now is the “restore” function was clunky. It generated many versions in the folder but I was expecting a version history (like how google does it).
- The other is about the default sizing of objects and frames. I spend a lot of time adjusting the object size as I add more items to the frame. I often add screenshots, PDFs to the board and add stickies or workflows along side. But I need to constantly resize the objects so that everything is readable.
- Improved efficiency- as it helped bringing teams on the same page, it reduced back and forth communication time.
- Fostered innovation and creativity- helped people feel more comfortable with getting the rough idea on the board and iterate over time.
I don’t have the full picture of the impact it has on the whole org, but I can say it helped my team to be more prepared and strategic when starting a new projects. Its ease of use also made it a widely adopted tool for collaboration, and people are comfortable using Miro to do planning activities and document progress.
Figma is for designers, it has very specific tools around wireframing, building layouts and finalizing UI, but the learning curve could be high for people with non design background. And all those design related feature become some kind of noise to the non designers if we are only looking for a whiteboard tool.
My husband was evaluating lucid chart, and his company went with lucid chart since it has more dev related features than miro.
