Overall Satisfaction with Miro

I am using Miro for facilitating workshops, sometimes internally, but more usually for external, in-house customers. Some of those are training workshops with Miro serving primarily as a more dynamic alternative to powerpoint and a space for jotting down results of breakout room discussion. In other cases the workshops are intended to gather perspectives, create solutions and support decision-making, in which case Miro serves as a tool to capture results of group thinking.

Pros

  • Support discussion in breakout rooms
  • Provides easy canvas for brainstorming
  • Allows for voting and preselection of ideas
  • Facilitates energizers and icebreakers online

Cons

  • the board refresh rate can have some delay over slower internet connections
  • participants accidentally moving entire frames around can be a nuisance
  • automatic text shrink on post-it notes allows for adding unreadable amounts of text
  • it has made my online workshops more dynamic and interactive
  • it has simplified the process of organizing and collecting slides related to similar areas
  • it has helped people to stay awake during meetings by giving them something to do that is related to the task at hand
There was limited impact of Miro on my collaboration with the internal team. Sometimes we use the tool to support internal meetings and it is as useful as it is when applied externally. That said, we mostly need the tool to facilitate meetings with outside customers and other stakeholders, so it is mostly a matter of our business model.
I have briefly tested Mural, Google Jamboard and MS Whiteboard before settling on Miro. The differences were not huge, but Miro offered me the most pleasing design and most intuitive interface out of the lot. I liked the inbuilt timer and voting mechanisms, as well as the flexibility of frames offered by the platform.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

It's an easy, relatively hassle-free way of supplementing online group sessions with visuals and note-taking. While similar features are now available inside the environment of Teams / Zoom, they are more impermanent and more closely linked to a specific meeting. In case of Miro there is more space for organizing the boards according to one's own structure, e.g. by workshop topic or client type.
