Overall Satisfaction with Miro

My role is as Data Product Manager. I use Miro to document the
needs and processes of my clients. First, the flexibility of formats
allows me to build pre-prototypes that I can share with my UI/UX
designers. Also, it helps me to integrate database schemas and system
architectures to enhance documentation in other platforms. From
the facilitator point of vue, it helps me to orchestrate sessions and
interviews while filling templates in an easy way. It has different
plug-ins that allow you to respect the "nature" of the objects you are
working with (so you don't have to do "translations from one app to
other").Our consultancy deals with a lot of different
industries from construction to banks, so we need a tool that can be as
versatile as the problems we help our customers to solve. Also, as data
consultants, we not only focus in one functional department of the
company, but in different functions as accounting, finance, marketing,
sales, human resources, operations, logistics, ..., so, we need a tool
that can be agnostic and well-integrated at the same time. Miro has all
the elements that are important for us.

Pros

  • Diagraming
  • Navigation
  • Integration with other apps

Cons

  • It is difficult to transition between the "select" mode and the "move around" mode, even with the keyboard shortcut.
  • More suggestions for actions while you are learning to use it.
  • Be more precise about conceptual differences from the start. For example, grids are different from tables.
  • Consultancy squads were more efficient as they can have all the data, processes and different sources in a single Miro sheet. Ideation processes are x2 faster than before.
  • Efficiency in documenting interviews have grow x3 as the flexibility of the tool helps to change rapidly between formats and resources, so interviewers do not have to double or triple check information in recordings, only when it is strictly needed.
  • It helped to reduce the app stack that we use from 5 apps to one.
I find Miro an overall easy to use tool, but I think that it needs more tutorials to fully onboard users. As a first time user, I find it difficult to understand some of the logics of the navigation and how grouping worked. So, I think that having short and well defined "introduction video hacks" can make onboarding in the tool enjoyable and capture more usage.
Diagrams: to visualize clients structures, processes and systems.
Pen: to write down ideas or corrections when it is needed.
Frames: to give the workspace structure and isolate components of the analysis.
Grids: to build data models and star schemas.
Images: to build up pre-prototyping to share with UI/UX colleagues.

Yes, it has become as the center of the creation in our team, but we still rely on other tools to share information with other clients. This integration is not about the usability of Miro, but the way of working of our clients. Office products are the mainstream and clients always ask for presentations and documents be on that formats, so we do the conversion to that formats.

Appropriate:
Not formal presentations where you need the flexibility to show different whole ideas or concepts at the same time without changing between pages.
Workshops where you need to document all the ideation process.
Interviews.
Initial documentation of products.
Diagrams, prototypes and collaborative work.

Less appropriate:
Formal and strict presentation with strict audiences.
Long documentations: more than 5 pages.
Technical documents that need the use of equations and code.
