Overall Satisfaction with New Relic

New Relic is being used in our Organization for monitoring everything literally. All our devices & instances, whether they are present in AWS, GCP, or On-premises, are being monitored in New relic. New Relic has helped in making sure that all aspects of an instance are being monitored, and whenever something goes wrong, New Relic sends out an alert over email or any chosen platform.
  • Wide variety of devices that can be added in monitoring.
  • Ease of use and user friendly GUI.
  • Ability to customize the monitoring parameters as per requirements.
  • Dependency on having to install agent on devices.
  • Incompatibility to add qumulo\Isilon storage devices.
  • Need to improve the ability to review the logs to perform event co-relation.
  • New Relic has helped in reducing a lot manual efforts.
  • Most of the monitoring and alerting has been automated.
  • Ability to add device one time and have it monitored as long as needed.
New Relic in our Organization is being used in a private capacity. Since we are a media company we try to keep stuff as private as possible by using tools that don't make use of public networks. As previously mentioned, New Relic is our primary solution for monitoring all the devices, and so far, it has been working way beyond our expectations.
With devices being monitored under New Relic, we have the ability to monitor all aspects which are needed to make sure a workflow functions without any problem. With the ability of new Relic to store and compare the historic data, it helped in making sure that the devices which were over-provisioned, can be lowered in terms of space, memory, network ports, etc, which eventually made the devices to be optimal and sufficient to be able to support a workflow without any hiccups.
New Relic is such a great tool that comes with a lot of pre-defined tools which a user can directly select and use as per their requirements. Also, it provides the ability for users to create their own filters, set up dashboards, and also set up alerts. All of this can be done from the UI without many issues. New Relic also provides a lot of API options.
PRTG and Nagios are decent products themselves; however, when compared to New Relic, they fell short on all fronts. New Relic provided a wide variety of features that the other tools didn't provide. Adding\removing devices in New Relic was quite easy and can be done with a few clicks. It provided a lot of flexibility in terms of configuring what to monitor, when to monitor, and how much to monitor.

Did implementation of New Relic go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy New Relic again?

Yes

New Relic has been an integral part of suiting all our monitoring requirements. With New Relic, we have been able to monitor all the servers in our environment, which consist of both windows and Linux machines. New relic has been playing a very vital role in getting our AWS instances under monitoring as well for the likes of AWS FSx, S3, Storage gateway, etc. While there is a wide range of usability of New Relic, we do have a lot of on-prem storage devices that don't allow any external software to be installed; hence we are not able to use New relic for monitoring them.
