Overall Satisfaction with New Relic

We have used New Relic for application performance monitoring. Our product being B2C, we need to monitor the performance 24 * 7 for the best experience for our customers. At the same time, when a customer faces any issue, our Technology team requires all the necessary details to assess, debug and identify the root cause. New Relic has assisted in both the ways to proactively monitor and provide finer details to assist during an issue as well.
  • Finer stacktrace i.e line by line time taken and highlights the faulty code precisely.
  • Apdex score indicates that something is wrong with the application immediately.
  • Near real time metrics and alerts.
  • Integration with many platforms and tools.
  • Finer control on what metrics are sent to New Relic Platform to control the costs as it has pricing based on GB of metrics ingested.
  • UX/UI could be improved as some pages are a bit slow or difficult to view though it provides good information to act upon.
  • Have the option to choose a Cloud provider to keep data within the country and also restrict access based on IP address so that we could control New Relic console access.
  • New Relic has assisted to identify and solve several production issues and outages within minutes instead of hours and days.
  • New Relic monitoring helped in proactive monitoring and helped to achieve better uptime and customer experience.
  • New Relic APM assisted the Technology team to debug the functional and performance issues faster and hence made their work more effective.
We are using New Relic for Kubernetes cluster, applications, and mobile apps as well. Hence it provides all relevant context and metrics fine-grained in near real-time. This is very helpful and enables the entire Technology team to take ownership of their contributions to functionality and performance as well.
New Relic provides finer metrics of usage of Infrastructure and applications. It has integration with most AWS services as well. Given these, it assists in right-size the Infrastructure and applications and thereby avoiding the risk of downtime/outages and also reducing cost in case of over-provisioned or underutilized infrastructure.
New Relic has features to monitor and mark deployments, NRQL to get fine-grained metrics and reports, Jenkins plugin, APIs to create alerts, and many more. These have benefited DevOps to automate onboarding of new applications and monitor the CI/CD effectively as well.
New Relic has been DevOps and Developer friendly to onboard and use. Also pricing-wise, it is one of the best in terms of ROI. There are few features better in other APM solutions but New Relic is working on new features faster recently.

New Relic is well suited for Microservices and Kubernetes-based applications as it has finer support for service discovery and distributed tracing. It has also had a native agent for Kubernetes which discovers the health of all running nodes and pods.
New Relic could be improved for mobile apps and logs though these are their recent offerings
