Overall Satisfaction

Pros

  • The best thing about Optimizely is how quick and easy it is to use. With one line of JavaScript, you are able to install Optimizely on your website and start testing.
  • Design and dev work is no longer a bottleneck to start testing. Simply open up the Optimizely dashboard and use their WYSIWYG editor (What you see is what you get) to start changing content. If you are lucky enough to have design and dev resources, then you can simply create a redirect test that points to your new design.

Cons

  • The product excels at creating tests quickly and getting up and running. Results are also easy to read and no dev experience is necessary to get started.
  • We have been able to lift our conversion rates by 30% across various content assets since running Optimizely. This has, of course, had an effect on increasing signups and increasing revenue.
There is no reason to not renew our usage of Optimizely.

2 - We have an Engineering Manager and a Front-End developer helping to manage our Optimizely software.
  • Optimizely is used to A/B test our entire website and marketing landing pages. By creating different types of content around different products and features, across different sources of traffic, we are able to test various messaging to find the 'optimal' one that works for a specific segment.

Implementation

Ensure that your Optimizely JS script is loaded in the header of the page. The reason for this is that the DOM loads the page, and if you are changing elements on the page in your variation, Optimizely needs to know this before the page loads so that it can make those changes for your variation.

Optimizely has a lot of documentation on how to use their product. Reading these docs and experimenting with the product is the best way to get acquainted.

Configuration

We added a custom event to Optimizely, to track a signup event from our application, in addition to Optimizely page view and click goals.

Support

Their technical engineers are experts on testing and their tool, and have always answered my questions promptly and accurately.
Yes - I'm not sure if our support is premium, but we do have access to phone and email support.

Usability

Though you don't need to be technically savvy to use Optimizely, it can help. Understanding what a DOM (Document Object Model) is and how the web basically works will help you to create variations and goals much more easily.

Reliability

Optimizely is usually up 100% of the time. When there is downtime, it is usually very brief.
Optimizely refreshes automatically, so the speed and throughput is more than enough to use the product and analyze its data.

Integration

  • We have integrated Optimizely with CrazyEgg and Mixpanel.
These are one click integrations and very easy to include with Optimizely experiments.
