Overall Satisfaction with PagerDuty
We majorly use PD for incident management and bug resolutions. PD has great integration with Slack that is very helpful for quick updates on the tickets directly from Slack. The monitoring and consolidation of issues is very convenient and is able to provide us with good visibility into related issues as well.
- Slack integration
- Different levels of severity handling
- Simple and easy to navigate
- On call scheduling
- Analysis Dashboard needs work
- Profile setup with Okta has been a hit or a miss
- On call job failure intimation
- Issue resolutions
- Quick and easy setup for new services for failures
- Identification of common issues
The team supports the systems that work 24*7 and needs near immediate resolution for things hosted on cloud infrastructure, which can have some small outages, which with the help of Pager Duty, we were able to either engineer around with a code fix or have the on call engineer jump in and fix these issues.
We use the Slack integration extensively. This enables the on call engineer to update the status directly from Slack and resolve tickets as well. The stakeholders are also part of these slack channels so they can view the active issues and read about the status in the same place as their communications. It may seem very trivial but taking out even one additional page to visit from the work for an on call engineer, is a huge time and effort save, directly and indirectly.
We do not utilize automated Incident response workflows currently.
The PagerDuty analytics is one of the lacking areas which isn't heavily relied upon at the company currently. But with the latest updates in the Dashboard and other capabilities, we plan to take a look at it in the future.
