Overall Satisfaction with Paycor

I am an HR department of 1. When I was hired into my new role in my new company I moved us to Paycor after having a positive Paycor experience at my prior employer.

We use Paycor for pretty much all things HR - employee digital files, signing policies and other documents, tax reporting, time keeping, job costing, Payroll, compensation management, surveys/engagement, evals/objectives, recognitions, recruiting (through Paycor/JazzHR), and performance management items. I think the only piece of Paycor we have that we aren't using is the LMS, Paths.

Pros

  • Digital compliance, document signing and workflows
  • Managing the recruiting from job posting to hire
  • Managing somewhat complex Payroll for a small company, or basic Payroll for a large company

Cons

  • Customer service chat is mixed bag and I usually work out my own answers on higher level configuration issues, before I get a right answer from Paycor.
  • Being fully transparent about add on costs.
  • Meeting their promised implementation expectations.
  • It has freed me up to do more of the fun things we wanted to do in HR, outside of basic policy/evals/Payroll.
  • It has challenged my brain and learning. It's both frustrating and empowering to be able to configure the system when Paycor can't.
Our HR and/or payroll team has saved time, but I'm not sure how much. - I don't have a great "before" metric bc I was only here for 3 months before starting the implementation/data gathering/etc. to launch Paycor. My first year here was very eventful but the extraction and migration took up to 70 hours per week due to bad mapping and the need for audits. I also had to re-set up things that had been set up by our implementation consultant not to our intention. All that aside, the system itself works great and meets our needs 95% of the time.
Once it's set up and good to go, if you know how to make small changes or get the right CS rep to help, it really does save time, help a lot, and give you significant capabilities that would otherwise cost you the price of a consultant.
Paycor is a little more expensive and a little more unwieldy but offers SOOOO much more for the money.

For a smaller company who wants to capture data and operate like a large company, Paycor is fantastic. It's a pretty good value for what you get. It's replaced our CompaRatio spreadsheets to give us data that really only forward-thinking companies utilize. Payroll is pretty easy even with differentials, add ons, recurring items and one-offs. Time cards and expense management are both integrated seamlessly to the pay grid.

There are more glitches than I'd like to see and I can imagine a larger workforce, or one with lots of locations, might be hard to manage. The detailed mapped punches we require and drive the job costing can't be done using the setting where if you don't have signal, it saves your data until you do. So if you don't have signal, you simply can't punch and have to report one. This is tricky for our dispatched team. Having a shift differential for emergency dispatch has eluded Paycor, where there are 2 ways it's typically done but for us, for some reason, each way doesn't solve the problem. Our job costing reports are all off because unless we require everyone to transfer punches to a Regular Base Wage (extra work to punch in), the reports dump all the time to any transferred job, not just the hours actually clocked.

For the most part, it's a good system for up to 50 EE with some complex situations, or up to 100 EE with basic needs. I'm not sure how it will grow with us past that.
