We use Pendo to track product and feature usages, also use Pendo guides to publish announcement, service down banner and new features promo to our users.

Product/feature usage is one of our key KPI to measure success
Makes it easier to find out power users
Make better decisions to cut features with low usage

It is fairly easy to use in general without much training. Once a feature is tagged appropriately, you will be able to monitor the usage. The data is available even if the feature was released months back. We have a dedicated team that create Pendo guides for us, that also means this part is more advanced or higher learning curve for regular users

Alternatives Considered

Google Analytics

I have used both Google Analytics and Pendo in the past. Basic functionality in terms of usage monitoring is similar.
Because it requires enterprise licenses, so the decision comes from leadership instead of product managers like me, I don't have a strong preference. But Pendo guides seems like an additional offering when compared to GA.

If you have a web-based application or platform that needs to monitor product usage, Pendo is good tool to fulfill that. It also provides good insights of user behavior for you to enhance your features. It will be less appropriate if you have a native mobile application with similar needs.
