Planful is a great tool for growing finance teams
Overall Satisfaction with Planful
We use Planful for month end reporting automation and for all forecasting and budgeting needs. It also automates our month over month reporting for the accounting teams as well as any ad hoc reporting the finance team may need to provide to the rest of our org. Planful serves as a single source of truth for finance and drastically simplifies all of our processes.
Pros
- Hierarchy management is as easy as dragging and dropping vastly simplifying model updates
- Creating ad hoc reports are a much better process being able to rely on a consistent single source of truth
- Dynamic planning/spotlight give you the option to automate even month end powerpoints and make month end reporting as easy a couple button clicks
Cons
- Dynamic planning should be better integrated in the structured planning environment and should just be a different type of template I can build
- The dynamic environment should not rely on the excel add in as much as it does
- Integrations to outside sources like salesforce should be easier to set up instead of relying on boomi
- It has significantly shrunk the amount of time for Finances close review
- It has increased trust in the finance org because reporting requires less revisions
- Team does not spend as much time checking data and can spend more time analyzing it
Planful allows up to have automated reporting that can be sent out during the close window to get more inputs from the departments. It also makes forecasting and budgeting easier as we can have more detailed forecasting without the extra time it would take to maintain in excel. The extra detail in forecasting and reporting allows the business to make faster more educated decisions.
By having one source of truth for our financial data we don't spend as much time trying to confer between teams on what is correct. Planful also allows us to quickly spin up new reports both ad hoc and permanent. It also makes month reporting a much more consistent process which builds trust in the finance org.
EPM tools are all pretty close in general functionality in that they are tables of your data with a finance focused UI stacked on top. The last 5% is what the difference. Planful has a very modern UI and does a great job of updating the system over time, including things like google sheets integrations, AI assistants, and adding in workforce Pro
