Software for project managers
Overall Satisfaction with Procore
We use Procore to be our instant non-verbal communication with other project managers and, more importantly, with the installers of the business. Therefore, as a specialty contractor Procore is more than another software to compile documents, send e-mails through, and assign tasks to individuals within or outside of your team. Procore is the software that has deleted other software's and has connected us to other teams from our vendors to the general contractors. Managing resources is essential and is the result to the effectiveness of a manager. Therefore, any project that has a more than one purchase or has a duration greater than a week is developed and managed through Procore. Procore solves many issues but the greatest that it solves is the office being "in-step" with the field installation without being at the site one hundred percent of the time.
Pros
- Overlaying plans and keeping the previous plan sets.
- Observations on-site and placing them within the plans and then tasking an individual to create a solution.
Cons
- The schedule tool is difficult to change without uploading an update.
- Submittal correspondence for the subcontractor is difficult due to the nature of the process to the GC and architect.
- Procore has placed additional needs and requirements on our union installers and there has been a learning curve. A slow learning curve.
- Decreased the amount of paper being printed for plans and updates on plans between the project managers and foreman.
We have integrated SmartSheet into the process of Procore scheduling. For us, this has helped in scheduling for individual projects and highlighted critical path items. By implementing this we are able to keep track of and help the client and the general contractor is aware of the items that we need to happen at specific times within the project's schedule in order to stay within the committed schedule with the client. SmartSheet also helps internally by placing sequencing on paper and uploading the information to Procore and letting the internal team be made aware of the fabrication and installation scheduling hours that the estimating department has for specific tasks.
Daily Logs is one of the aspects of Procore that our specific company and our installers have the longest learning curves. Due to the fact that it takes away from installation time and precious time at that with all of the advanced and aggressive scheduling that the general contractor has to commit. The daily log is the first item that gets pushed to the end of the week with the field installers input weekly hours. Yet daily logs are the place that we have designated for our foreman to communicate material or manpower needs for the project.
Procore is superior in document tracking and overall project management abilities, including financial tracking. PlanGrid is not used for this purpose, in my understanding. Procore is unique in this attribute and elevates beyond any known software on the market at this time and is the reason why many general contractors in our region are moving to the software.
