Overall Satisfaction with PRTG Network Monitor

I use PRTG Network Monitor to monitor a variety of things, e.g. bandwidth utilization, ping times, hard drive free space, UPS temperatures, etc. I set up alerts to notify me of the issues noted above, but I am also notified when a camera goes down since I am monitoring bandwidth on that switch port. The monitoring capabilities are very comprehensive.

Pros

  • Monitor and alert on bandwidth utilization.
  • Monitor and alert on hard drive free space.
  • Monitor and alert on CPU utilization.

Cons

  • Allow UPS temperatures to be displayed in Fahrenheit.
  • Have more sensor options.
  • Biggest positive ROI is reduced troubleshooting time, leading to reduced downtime.

I first started using PRTG Network Monitor to monitor 50 WAN connections. I received alerts when ping times were out of range or bandwidth utilization was too high. Being able to look at detailed history for each connection was invaluable for troubleshooting.
