Read&Write reviewed
Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write
I recommend Read&Write to students within my Higher Education establishment. I work mainly with students with additional support needs such as dyslexia and i am a recognised trainer for the software. Our college has a site licence for the software and as such, students can access it on any college device. Problems can arise when the students wish to use the software on their own devices at home.
Pros
- supports leaners with ASN by offering multiple tools
- Easy to navigate and use, interface is very intuitive.
- empowers students to be independent with their learning
Cons
- Find the chrome extension quite difficult to use and it can be temperamental also.
- would like to see a tool that can help with note taking
- Has allowed students to succeed independently and at a level they would have struggled with without the support of Read&Write
Allows students to use multiple devices and/or platforms to access the tools if they wish to use them. This has allowed the college to put in place a Bring your own device policy increasing inclusion and engagement
A student i met with really struggled to read the course materials that she was being provided due to her dyslexia and visual stress symptoms. This student was ready to leave college dues to this before being shown the features within Read&Write. She used screen masking and TTS and eventually began making mp3 recordings of her own work which she would listen back to for revision purposes. The student thrived on her course and passed with an A.
Read&Write measure up well against these but can be a little more expansive. It does have a bank of tools in the one place though which is a positive as it means that users do not need multiple programmes
