Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Rubrik automatically schedules and backs up our entire IT infrastructure, from VMWare virtual machines to physical servers and appliances. It is used in Information Technology by most of the IT users. It addresses specifically the need to backup platforms like SQL very frequently, but also hold long term and legal hold data as well.

Return on Investment

It replaced a legacy backup platform that needed 1-2 hours daily of monitoring and nudging to keep working. It just works now
It consolidates storage, backup software, and compute.

Alternatives Considered

Veeam Backup & Replication and CommVault

Veeam: We use this as well, and it's a great compliment to Rubrik. If backup is part of your protection strategy than why would you ever pick a single backup solution and be stuck with a single point of failure.

CommVault: Very competent and complicated product that can backup anything if/when it works reliably.

Likelihood to Recommend

Rubrik covers a VM environment perfectly, but does lack some support for edge use cases such as SQL Filestreams, Postgres, or other lesser used technologies. Their approach was to get the majority of data in those features first, then work their way down to lesser used workloads. It works great as a backup platform you do not wish to babysit.
