Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

Sage Intacct handles our financial recordkeeping, budgeting, and grant management. We were looking for a software solution that was easy for our program managers to use while still being robust enough for our finance department's needs, and Intacct has been a good choice. Non-financial users are able to review their budget-to-actual results and track grant spenddowns.

Pros

  • Easy to integrate non-financial users.
  • Allows for a simple chart of accounts because of how the Dimension structures work.
  • Simple to correct mistakes and make adjusting entries.

Cons

  • I'd like to see CSV imports simplified, or made a little easier to get correct without import errors.
  • Initial set-up can be cumbersome.
  • For multi-entity organizations, having a better delineation between what can be done at the "Top Level" and the "Entity Level" can be confusing for new users.
  • Month-end close is about 2 days faster than our old system.
  • Managers feel more empowered and aware of their financial results.
  • Saving 3 hours a month clearing error batches and reversing entries.
My organization doesn't use automation features, though the ability to duplicate prior month general ledger entries is very helpful and saves us time.
We use the multi-entity and project accounting modules, which are helpful. We have 4 separate business entities, and they can all live in one program, sharing one chart of accounts, where we can easily flip between them. Sage Intacct also handles inter-entity transactions in an intuitive way, so transfers and purchases between entities are almost automatic.
I needed a pretty considerable amount of help in setting up the system coming from Sage 300, but my implementation tech was knowledgeable and easy to reach when I had questions. It's definitely not a "do it yourself" software solution, but I think it's worth getting used to, especially if you have a dedicated person to help configure it.
Intacct is significantly easier to use and more modern than Sage 300, and has a much higher "ceiling" than QuickBooks; you can just do a lot more things, and the system doesn't have the same training wheels that QuickBooks has at times. Being cloud-based and able to upload support for transactions within the system saves so much time compared to keeping a server folder for transaction support and JEs.

Do you think Sage Intacct delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Sage Intacct's feature set?

Yes

Did Sage Intacct live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Sage Intacct go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Sage Intacct again?

Yes

Intacct is particularly useful if you need a web-based ERP, or if you want non-finance department users to be a part of your environment and be able to view/retrieve their own financial reports. I especially like that my organization, with 4 business entities, is able to do everything in one program and easily flip between the entity we're transacting in. For smaller businesses, some of the tools may feel like overkill, but I think it's great for midsized agencies.
