Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3

We are currently using 2 - 3 node clusters in two different locations in an active/active and DR/DR configuration.

Pros

  • Simplicity
  • Replication
  • Scalability

Cons

  • File level recovery
  • VM provisioning/usage
  • Reporting
Honestly I haven't needed their support much but anytime I have ever need something they are able answer quickly; however, usually the answer is a little complex.
  • Time savings has been a huge plus
  • Not needing extensive training is also a big plus.
  • When licensing is due it is a bit heavy but what licensing isn't?
We purchased about 3 years ago. At the time the pricing of these other options was massively higher than Scale HC3. Most of the other options have steep learning curves. Nutanix like HC3 runs on a KVM architecture making it similar but other than a few bells and whistles I don't think it adds that much.
Scale is a relatively inexpensive hyper converged solution that is very simple and easy to use. Although the simplicity is it's strongest advantage it is also makes it hard to see how much VM's are being used and how to get the most out of the system.
