Best Shipping Automation Software for the money. (saves A LOT on shipping costs, too)

Overall Satisfaction with ShipStation

We use ShipStation to integrate with our BigCommerce website for purposes of offering customers multiple shipping options at checkout, and to streamline our own internal shipping processes. I.e it provides multiple shipping options from all the big carriers (UPS, USPS, Fedex etc.) and discounted rates on those options. It also automates tracking info and shipping details to our customers.

Pros

  • Syncs with BigCommerce very well
  • Is very affordable relatively speaking
  • Provides realtime shipping quotes
  • Allows split shipments on single orders (great when shipping items of an order seperately and creating tracking #'s for each shipment)

Cons

  • Customer support on basic plan
  • Realtime shipping rates in ShipStation's portal sometimes differ from those shown at checkout on our website.
  • They charge a monthly fee for adding our own shipping carriers, which is a bit questionable.
  • Has decreased our shipping costs due to their group buying power
  • Has saved us time from manually sending tracking info and updates to customers
  • Can be used directly from our BigCommerce portal when shipping, expediting the shipping process and keeping things organized.
Overall ShipStation is fairly easy to use and has a vast knowledge base. Their AI powered chat support directs me to the exact info I need when I'm troubleshooting a problem, and helps solve the problem 90% of the time. I would like more human support, and telephone support would be a major plus.
ShipStation is mainly used for automating and streamlining our shipping process. It doesn't track inventory or deal with fulfillment. ShipBob, on the other hand, is a fulfillment and shipping provider. (in addition to automation)
Because our e-commerce business is still small and we're operating from our brick-n-mortar store, we don't have a need for ShipBob at the moment.

ShipStation is great if you need realtime carrier rates to be presented on your checkout page of your ecommerce website. If you're using BigCommerce or Shopify it integrates seamlessly, which is nice. For small time operators they're great, since we don't get the same discounts they do from carriers; as a result shipping costs have decreased ever since using them.
