Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Shopify Plus for the website of my brand- [...]. It;s not solving a business problem, but rather opening up a new channel for online sales directly through our website. I use Shopify Plus for all the content that goes into our websites. All the pages (PDPs, LPs, HPs).

Pros and Cons

Pros

Intuitive to edit content on pages without requiring a lot of coding.
Easy to setup discounts.
Easy to manage product information that will be displayed on the product page.
Easy to read the analytics and build reporting.

Cons

Allow discounts to stack on top of each other when needed.
Allow more personalization of content for specific customer groups without requiring backend coding.
Be less app based and have more internal features. Refer to stacking discounts example above.

Return on Investment

Positive impact with sales. Easly changing the price of a product to attract more customers leading to a higher conversion.
Budles. Being able to create a bundle at a special price to attract customers and sell more than one product also provided positive ROI.
Not negative but not as good as we would expect for a ROI will be on shipping costs. Because we rely on an app that costs us to apply the shipping costs we need (eg. cost per unit of product added rather than a flat rate costs) our ROI isn't as we expected on shipping.

Usability

Shopify Plus is intutive as stated previously. It's easy to find what we want and edit (reports, products, online store theme, etc...) You dont need to have a ton of coding experience to be able to get a website up and running on Shopify Plus. The reason I wont give a 10/10 and gave an 8 is because I do think it is heavily realiant on app and it can open up a can of worms with the amout of apps that are out there, their costs, and which one to chose. There are also some internal limitations as stated previously with discounts and personalized message for different customer groups. But overall, it is a good platform that I recommend.

Alternatives Considered

Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Adobe Commerce

Shopify Plus is better than both due to how the platform is build and how easy it is to interact and do stuff in there. It seems more modern than both of the other platforms stated above. It is also not as heavily code based as the other two platforms. It's easier to find what we need and change it.

Likelihood to Recommend

Under the scope of my responsibilities, Shopify Plus works great when editing content. It's interface is easy to understand and hovering over the block showing you what section of the page structure it is to edit makes it easy to edit content. Not a lot of coding needed. However, a scenario that is less appropriate is when I want to allow customers to stack discounts on top of each other or when I want to show a personalized message to a specific customer group. For example, if I want to show a header banner to my employees, this will need top be coded in the backend and it makes things complicated. The same applies for example if I want to allow this customer group to have free shipping and a bigger discount. I cannot stack both discounts so I would either need to code or use an app. Being so app based is not ideal ans they cost more for us and we already pay for Shopify Plus.
