Overall Satisfaction with Skype

We are a small business with a global reach, and as such we need the ability to reach people around the world--colleagues, business partners, and customers. Skype is a tool outside of email, for more personal connection and conversation. Less formal than a Zoom or email, Skype definitely feels like a conversation rather than a meeting.
  • Chat/messaging feature is great. It's a replacement for texting.
  • Audio quality of calls is good.
  • Contact list is useful and you'll know if someone is online or not.
  • This is really small, but I'd love to see the emoticons updated to emojis.
  • Make calling free like some other communications app providers.
  • Grant the ability to not show that you're online even when you are. Sometimes you want to make a call, but you don't want other people to see you're online and start messaging you.
  • Skype made keeping in touch with an advisor in Mexico very easy. The initiative there resulted in 5 new partnerships.
  • Skype has helped me with account management for at least 3 customers in LATAM--usually it's a fast way to answer a question about a support renewal.
  • For about 9 months Skype helped me stay in touch with a colleague in Prague. We would meet once a week to go over sales activities.

Sugar Connect (formerly collabspot), Slack
I use Skype for business contacts--typically with folks I don't have an established relationship with. It's less invasive to send some Skype messages than to text, you know? Navigating contacts is really easy on the desktop app, and calling Skype to Skype is pretty easy. I do find with calling via Skype, it's more formal than a phone call in that most people don't pick up a Skype call out of the blue--you arrange it beforehand.
