Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Our organization uses Slack for communication between the company employees. We have created multiple channels and groups based on our needs. We also use Slack for video conferencing. We have integrated Slack with Jenkins also. So whenever a Jenkins pipeline is triggered, Slack will post a message in a dedicated channel.

Pros

  • Multiple person can screen share in a huddle(call)
  • We can configure workflow to send scheduled messages in a channel
  • You can use threads in messages.

Cons

  • Slack doesn't have the feature of read receipt.
  • Sometimes when a huddle starts, the people in the call are not able to hear each other.
  • When we send a message from Slack mobile app, it takes some 1-2 min delay to show it in the desktop app.
  • We have integrated it with Jenkins, so now whenever a pipeline is triggered, we get to know from a slack notification
  • Sometimes the conference calling has some glitches
  • It also has the save messages feature which is not there in teams
There are some downsides of this application. The pricing of this application is a bit expensive as compared to its competitors. There are some glitches in the huddles. Also sometimes, When the messages sync up it takes a bit of time to sync between the mobile app and desktop app.

Slack is a good app for communication between employees of a company. It has all the features. But Slack is a bit expensive as compared to Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams comes with the Microsoft 365 bundle. So if you have a small-scale company, slack is not the right app to go for it.
