Overall Satisfaction with Slack

I use Slack for both direct work connections with customers who aren't on our company-owned Chat tool, as well as staying connected with my Professional Networking groups.
When it comes to working with customers, Chat moves at a faster, much more nimble speed, to ensure fast communications occur, but with the content layer of email systems and in addition, customizable features to add a lively personality to the client. The immediate nature, akin to a text message, are so helpful in having a dialogue with a customer or colleague, without the formalness of email.

Pros

  • Organization
  • Threads
  • Content Layer
  • Integrations with other external tools
  • bots

Cons

  • I wish the threading was within a message and not a side panel
  • I believe that Slack is more expensive than other Chat solutions.
  • From a collaboration perspective, it's been positive so that we can communicate with external clients who don't use our own internal Chat solution.
  • It's a negative tool, as it competes directly with our company's native internal Chat solution.
I've used Slack since 2016 and it's one of the best Chat tools on the market. It wasn't difficult to start to use it and most of us found ourselves in the tool throughout the entire work day.
Having the ability to build out workflows, use it as a content library, and also use it for fun, made it a wonderful tool.
Slack is still one of the best Chat tools on the market, but Zoom Team Chat (Zoom Workplace) is coming up quickly and overall, provides a great tool that is included at no cost.
I believe that Slack still has some development advantages over the competitors at this point still, but in a couple of years, many of those may be gone.

Do you think Slack delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Slack's feature set?

Yes

Did Slack live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Slack go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Slack again?

No

Slack is well suited for large Enterprise customers, but really, customers of all sizes. I think the decision partially comes down to cost, because other platforms also have Chat tools which are also very good.
I believe that there are a few integrations that Slack has that the other solutions don't have and if those are a requirement for your groups, especially around Engineering and/or Development, than consider the choice, albeit, more expensive.
As time goes on, look for the other Chat solutions to catch up on this gap.
